About

Mission

The educational program at Garderie Éducative Chomedey Inc. aims to promote the child as the first agent in their development. Each child is strong, independent, and willing to learn and grow. Therefore, their participation in their learning is crucial. The mission of the daycare is to facilitate this learning by creating an environment best suited for their development. This entails forming and utilizing relationships with their friends, family, and teachers to encourage them to be active participants in their learning, as well as to prepare them for the world outside of daycare.

Our daycare prides itself in accepting and nurturing all children with special needs. Your child is a special focal point in your lives and it is our goal to assure you that they will receive the very best possible care that we can provide.

Educational Approach

As a daycare, we have inspired our teachings based on the Reggio Emilia approach and HighScope approach.

The Reggio Emilia Approach is focused on the pedagogy viewing the child as the first agent in their learning. This child-centered approach emphasizes relationships that help guide and build learning experiences where the child is autonomous. By being autonomous the children are allowed to make mistakes, be curious, experiment, and work out solutions on their own terms. This gives the child the opportunity to have a say in their development, which reinforces every learning situation tenfold.

The HighScope learning approach bases it’s strategies upon scaffolding. This means that parents and educators are meeting children at their developmental level and are then guiding and helping the child build upon experiences to achieve newer and higher levels of development.

Special Needs

Our daycare prides itself in accepting and nurturing all children with special needs. Your child is a special focal point in your lives and it is our goal to assure you that they will receive the very best possible care that we can provide.

Depending on the needs of children, we have provided the following services to children who have been diagnosed by their doctor:

  • 1 on 1 services (a shadow can be assigned to your child within the classroom)
  • Secondary support within a classroom (a shadow can work with your child several hours throughout the week)
  • Co-operation with therapists (Speech, occupational, physio, etc)
  • The daycare has worked along side CRDI, CLSC, Jewish Rehab, and others
  • Staff have gone off site to therapists’ offices to learn how to implement intervention plans
  • Staff have helped create intervention plans with therapists
  • The daycare has sent staff to learn ASL
  • Provided children with specialized equipment and learning materials (pictograms, ergo-chairs, etc)

Fastoche

At Garderie Educative Chomedey, we have an automated system that allows the teachers to access several components of children’s day. The system allows the teachers to input the attendance, the children’s journal- which is the sent out to parents by email at the end of the day, the child’s full profile (which includes emergency contacts, allergies, phone numbers, etc), and allows a communication venue for parents and staff to communicate.

Through the system you can send and receive emails and text messages. Administration will often broadcast messages, alerts, and fyi’s through Fastoche. The system can also be interactive with the parents when they text message the system. The following are some commands that parents can text the system: if their child is absent, if their child will be late, ask what the menu at the daycare is, what your balance is, and much more!

Since 2016, we have introduced a new facet of our communication system. At 9:30am every day, if your child is not marked in as present the system will send the parents a text message asking if your child will be attending daycare today. This protocol has been put it place as a precaution to certain situations that had appeared on the news where parents had left their children in the car unattended. It is the daycare’s way of ensuring the safety of the children.
